Action Research

Action research:
I have learned that action research is a very powerful tool that can be used by a teacher/administrator to self-reflect on one’s administrative or teaching practices.  This reflection will allow for classroom  school and self improvement.  After having learned what action research is I now know that I lead an action research group every week in a subject/level PLC.   There are endless ways that teachers/administrators would be able to use action research because the major benefit of it is improvement and there is always room for improvement.  As an English teacher, I can tell you that, as a department we meet to discuss EOC test scores and ways in which we can improve upon them.  We study the data of each of the student’s strengths and weaknesses and how we as teachers approached testing.  As a group we have devised a plan to try and raise the scores for next year which we will be implementing at the beginning of the school year. . As an administrator, my site supervisor and the VP on my campus have analyzed  the EOC scores, tardiness, attendance, and  how each of these effected the overall grades of last year’s freshman.   After analyzing the data and visiting other campuses, my site supervisor has decided to implement a Freshman Academy on our campus this next school year because they were found to be successful on campus with the same makeup as ours.  These students will be located in one hallway, have less time in between classes, share the same lunch and will be pulled from electives and placed in tutoring if their core subjects are failing for more than two six weeks.  All freshman teachers will have the same lunch to allow for planning.
